Giving up sugar can help us look younger!

I spotted an article this morning in a UK newspaper (Daily Mail) explaining how giving up sugar can help people to stay look younger for longer.  Sounds good to me!    To read more go to http://bit.ly/HfhInD . What do you think?  I gave up sugar for years while I  had candida and now I am careful not to eat too much of it.  Do I look younger than my age?  Well people tell me that I do but I’m not convinced!     I’ve posted also this on Twitter so let me know via Comments or Twitter if giving up sugar is helping you to fight the signs of aging!

I’m back!

Hi everyone! Sorry I disappeared without an update.  I had all the all clear before Christmas and I was able to enjoy all my favourites (apart from red wine) over the holidays. I kept off red wine as I was warned it is really bad for candida sufferers. But everything was fine.  I kept taking the threelac and everything was going great… Then I hit a mega stressful period and my mostly ‘good’ diet when out of the window.  Not surprisingly my health dipped and now yes you’ve guessed it – the candida is back.  I am working hard to reduce my stress and reintroducing a healthier diet and lifestyle back into my life.  I’m interested in Dr Mercola’s view that taking anti candida formulations ultimately leads to resistant strains.  He advocates probiotics and an anti candida diet. Take a look at this video.

It certainly makes sense to me. I’d love to hear from anyone else who is using probiotics to improve their health.  I’m doing my own research into the different types especially L. sporogenes and best dosages. Any tips or thoughts would be appreciated! I’ve got to look at this as a life long health plan!

Visit to health food shop and update

Hi I ‘ve been away for a few days and I’ve been itching to get back to my blog! I’ve been identified as having (temporary) food intolerances caused by the candida and I’ve had these intolerances confirmed since I last blogged. No gluten, lactose or sugar which is tricky.  But since I’ve been avoiding the foods that I can’t digest at present I do feel a lot better.  Its important to find someone reliable to test you as the intolerances vary.  I am also trying to vary my diet as eating too much of something can create new intolerances.  Candida sure is a challenge! So I have dusted off my cook books and I am experimenting with some lovely new foods.  Luckily I love salads, veggies and meats so its just a question of working out combinations to vary my diet. However lunches are trickier as I work in an office.  I have found a range of soups by the New Convent Garden company which I will be trying next week. No nasties in the ingredients. These are fresh soups but I am experimenting with freezing them.  I went along to the health food shop today and spent a fortune! I spotted grapefruit seed extract which I am going to take in rotation with the other anti fungals to zap the candida. I also remembered today (wish I’d remembered sooner!) than I previously had great results with SF 722 capsules.  I’ll see how I get on with everything I am taking now and I may move over to SF722 if needed in a few weeks.  If I had recalled this product sooner I would have tried it first but my memory isnt as sharp.  At least I can blame the candida! When I am better i’ll have to blame old age! :)   Anyway I wanted to tell you about some of the great items that I have found in my health food shop which you might like too.  My fav is vegetable crisps.  I buy mixed bags and they are lovely especially if you are missing potatoes (some anti candida diets say no spuds or you may be intolerant).  I also bought gluten free muesli, organic cornflakes (no sugar), puffed buckwheat and puffed quinoa. All great for breakfasts or snacks with soya milk! I am going to alternate them with fried breakfasts.  I’ve bought some millet bread to try too.  Some of these foods were pricey though.  If anyone can recommend a low cost website selling these things please let me know! But it was fun choosing new things to try and its brightened me up as the candida diet can get repetitive which is the last thing you want (risking new intolerances). I’m off to eat some delicious veggie crisps! :)

My Mistakes

So for the last two years I have considered myself as a former candida sufferer and I have been merrily eating whatever I want although I do limit sugary stuff as I dont want to put any more weight. And now all of a sudden, almost overnight I am ill with candida again. To say I am gutted and depressed is an almighty understatement. So I sitting here writing this blog in an attempt to keep sane as this feels vaguely constructive.

How did this happen again? Ok firstly I got complacent and didnt panic when I ran out of my probiotic, I didnt even realise that I had also run out of my iron supplements some time ago (boosts your immune) and I started to worry about some stuff that isnt worth worrying about. I bet the candida couldn’t believe its luck! And what did I do when I felt a bit fed up and run down? Treated myself to a glass of my favourite red wine (sugar and yeast!) !!! Yes I know I sound totally stupid but I am telling you guys in the hope that I can stop someone else making the same mistake. Within a few days I am sneezing (hay fever), feeling sick (food intolerances) and with a foggy head (goodness knows). I am trying my best to be positive. I’ve beaten it before and I will do it again, I keep telling myself. So this what I am going to do:-

- stop eating sugar / alcohol / wheat
- limit potatoes
- get some Garden of Life Primal Defence asap
- get some iron tablets fast!
- take capryllic acid tablets
- take pau d’arco
- take weak colloidol silver

The last one is my secret weapon as it seems to zap the candida very quickly. Though I have taken it for 2 days now and no reduction in the symptoms. In fact I seem worse :( I will assume this die off as I havent taken my own advice (below) and done the anti candida diet first. The simple reason is that I cant bear the thought of having this candida for any longer than I have to. I want my old life back again asap. If the weak silver doesnt work then I will move onto the stronger stuff if necessary.

Mentally I am re-reading Louise Hay’s You Can Heal Your Life. I think its a fantastic book! If Louise can cure her terminal cancer I am sure I can get rid of yeast!
